Background

Ilma Institute of Science and Technology (IIST) is an academic institution established in order to pay homage to NII KOTEY AMLI I, the founder of the La Klannaa Royal, for his great contribution in the prevention of slave raids in Accra and its suburbs including La. IIST has been established to contribute to filling an obvious gap in science and technology education in Ghana. It is intended to put more emphasis on science and research training to complement Ghana’s industrial research agenda. It is believed that this goal could be achieved by redirecting attention and resources in this endeavour.

Institutional Identity

The ILMA Institute of Science and Technology (IIST) is a research oriented university to be. It is committed to achieving excellence as a private institution of research and graduate education and the institution of choice for undergraduate students of exceptional ability and promise. It intends to rank among the very best research universities in Africa and the world in general. To realize these aspirations and fulfil its mandates, IIST shall advance knowledge, provide outstanding and innovative instruction, and nourish a climate of intellectual growth in the sciences and engineering disciplines and interdisciplinary fields to create and apply knowledge for the benefit of all. IIST is committed to sharing any research, educational and technological achievements with businesses, government and other educational institutions. With productive scholars and researchers of the highest caliber, IIST will contribute to the creation of a partnership between academia and industry. IIST shall serve as a hub of knowledge from which will flow cultural, intellectual, and economic benefits to Ghana and region. Successful partnerships between universities and industry are essential to innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship as they bring those who produce knowledge together with those who can exploit it productively in the economy. To realize this dream, IIST shall effectively collaborate with the private sector in an effort to place Ghana amongst research and development performing nations.
